CrossBridge Community Church held its 3rd annual Vacation Bible School for children ages 3 to 5th grade last week at Lakeway City Park. Using the popular “Veggie Tales: The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything” program, the theme of the free three-evening event was “Calling All Heroes.” The guiding scripture for this year’s VBS was “I can do all things through Christ because He gives me strength” (Phillipians 4:13). Activities focused on several well-known heroes of the Bible and how children today can live their lives with the same dedication.
Attended by 42 children from 30 families in the Lakeway area, CrossBridge began each VBS evening with a complimentary dinner followed by the Yo Ho Ho Opening Show that included skits and music, Rowboat Bible Adventures, Clapping Rock Crafts and Whipcrack Island Games. The children, or “crew members,” were assigned to crews of 5 or 6 with a dedicated teen “Shipmate”. Shipmates guided the children, “crews”, through the different activities of the evening, and pirates Bumpo & Bones kept them entertained with skits and silliness.
The outdoor venue provided plenty of space for the little ones to enjoy the fun, although it also posed some challenges when the area received its first rainfall of the season on the closing evening. The activities were rearranged to the covered Pavilion area and participants enjoyed a break from the heat. “It was great to see that the downpour of rain Thursday night did not stop the kids from coming back for our last night together,” noted “Commodore” Donalei Erdman, the event’s organizer. “Truly, God has touched the hearts of many!”
